I haven’t posted a blog in a while. I apologize, however, it hasn’t been without reason. I’ve been inspired at this season in my life to write a different story.
This story is quite a departure from my Vampires. I wrote New Breed when I was barely twenty years old. When my son Grayson was born, I was inspired then to celebrate his life with a series of children’s books. That endeavor is still on hold. However, as my son grows and becomes a young man, I am working vigorously on a story I couldn’t have written before now.
My son has been fortunate to have surrogate brothers and sisters in his class. I’ve come to know these children very well and appreciate what a positive impact they’ve had in his life.
My writer’s voice spoke to me and encouraged me to pen a young teen Christian novel about the class. My husband and I sacrifice quite a lot to keep Grayson at a school that embraces his potential and understands him as a person. He has a beautiful heart and is loved by staff and friends for his qualities.
I felt compelled to use my skill to pay tribute to them before they leave the school for other scholastic endeavors.
The title is “Rainy Day” and it involves the children on an unexpected adventure while camping in the eight grade.
It’s surreal writing about my son and his friends in the future. I admire them, so my hope is that the end product does justice and entertains them and many others.
I am not using the children’s real names. Grayson is the only child with his given name. I felt it was important to protect them and respect any parents that may not want their child’s identity in the book I’m hoping will be embraced by many people from many walks of life.
Will you be one?
