I miss my aunt Janet everyday since her passing, but I especially miss her on days like today. We would commiserate about our medical conditions. She had a way of recognizing my journey and taking stock of hers. She often said, “You can’t testify unless you have had a testimony.” COVID and lockdown prevented me from sharing my testimony when it happened.
The following year, my son Grayson received his own testimony by being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. The very day of the one year anniversary of my heart event where I suffered three heart attacks, each accompanied by cardiac arrest. We met with my life-saving Cardiologist that day and by the evening, Grayson had been diagnosed and admitted to Rady’s Children’s Hospital.
I’ve been very candid about my experience. My sister from another mister encouraged me to record my journey on YouTube. That led to several interviews and now, I’ve been asked to participate in this year’s American Heart Association luncheon. It is an honor and my history of Diabetes plays a part, as it has with everything I’ve done since I was five-years-old. Grayson has a positive attitude about my genetic gift to him. He’s glad to have me as a mentor.
My latest work in raising awareness for Women’s Heart Health is the end result of why I stopped recording videos. My book titled Reset is currently in the editing process and will hopefully be published soon. I’ll provide an update when I have a firm launch date.
I’m not sure about any other plans, but as long as God allows me to wake up, raise my son, and be there for my husband and all my loved ones, then that is all I could ask for. Helping others by sharing my time and my story is a bonus.
